Donations of securities
The gift of securities listed on the stock market is more advantageous than ever! The gift of securities includes publicly traded shares, savings bonds, mutual fund units and other eligible securities listed on a Canadian, US or international stock exchange.
Since 2006, the provincial and federal governments have eliminated the capital gains tax on publicly traded securities donated to public charities. This measure makes this type of donation much more interesting and advantageous.
By directly transferring securities to the UQO Foundation, the donor will not pay tax on the capital gain and will receive in return a tax receipt in the amount of the fair market value of the securities on the date of receipt of these securities. last by the Foundation.
The eligible amount of donations for the purposes of calculating the tax credit is, in general, limited to 75% of the donor’s net income. Any unused portion of a donation made in a year may be carried forward for the next five years.
For more information on this type of donation, contact Sylvain Ladouceur, Executive Director of the UQO Foundation, by e-mail or at 819-595-3900 ext. 3905 and / or download the donation form.
